Q Unlike the Greeks the Romans focused on portraying wisdom, experience and age in their sculpture instead of beauty - specifically in their portrait sculptures. What does this say about the cultural differences between Ancient Greece and Rome? Which society, in your opinion, is our American society today closest to? And what type of idealization can you relate to most - exaggerating beauty, or age and wisdom?

The Greek and Roman cultures had many similarities. Romans did copied ancient Greek culture; however, Roman art was very different from that of Greek art. Greek art was more about wisdom, experience and age and Rome was more about beauty. This tells a lot about the difference in their cultures as well. Greeks appeared to be more scholarly and intellectual compared to the Romans who were more about wars and militarism. Ancient Greek paintings were for the wealthy class and the kings who posed to be intellectuals and the Roman art was for common people as well depicting every day scenes and human in a more real form.
